Driving With Confidence
Why Women Across Islamabad & Hazara Choose Makkah Driving School
For many women, learning to drive means freedom: taking children to school, reaching the office or university on time, and not waiting for anyone for a ride. But many driving schools only have male instructors, crowded timings and short rounds in an empty ground. At Makkah Driving School, a certified female instructor teaches you on real roads from your very first class, and every class covers at least 4 km.
We run ladies driving lessons at all three branches: our driving school in Islamabad at Markaz I-8, our Abbottabad branch in Jinnahabad and our Mansehra branch on Abbottabad Road. You can learn in a manual car or an automatic Toyota Passo at the same fee, and we pick you up from home for a minimal charge.
Our theory classes also prepare you for the moments when you’re alone on the road: changing a tyre, checking oil and water, switching from petrol to CNG and knowing your rights after an accident. When you’re ready, we guide you through the complete driving license process. New to Makkah Driving School? Start at our homepage.

What Happens in Your First Driving Class?
Most women are nervous before their first class, and that’s completely normal. Here’s exactly what happens, so there are no surprises.
1
We pick you up from home
Your female instructor arrives at your door at the agreed time. If you’ve booked pick & drop, you don’t need to travel anywhere.
2
Getting to know the car
Before the engine starts, you’ll adjust the seat and mirrors, and learn the steering, pedals, gears and indicators. There’s no rush. Ask as many questions as you like.
3
Your first drive on a quiet road
We start on a calm road near your home. You’ll practise starting, stopping, steering and gentle turns while your instructor sits beside you, ready to help.
4
At least 4 km of real driving
By the end of your very first class you’ll have driven at least 4 km, on real roads, not in circles in an empty ground.
5
A short review and your next step
Your instructor tells you what went well, what to practise next, and plans your next class.
Common Fears Women Have About Learning to Drive – and How We Help
“I’m scared of heavy traffic.”
Almost every student says this. That’s why we never start in traffic. You begin on quiet roads and move to busier areas only when you and your instructor both feel ready. By the time you reach a crowded chowk or markaz road, you’ll control the car without thinking about the pedals.
“What if the car stalls or rolls back on a hill?”
Stalling is part of learning, and your instructor is right beside you. In Abbottabad and Mansehra we teach hill starts step by step, first on gentle slopes, then on real climbs, until rolling back stops being a worry.
“I feel uncomfortable learning with a man.”
You don’t have to. Every branch has certified female instructors, and you can ask for one for every class. A family member is also welcome to sit in.
“I’m too old to learn now.”
We’ve taught women of every age, from university students to grandmothers. What matters is patience, and our instructors have plenty of it.
“What if people honk or tailgate me?”
It happens to every new driver. We teach you to stay calm, keep a safe distance, use your mirrors and let impatient drivers pass, so other people’s hurry doesn’t become your stress.
“What if my car breaks down when I’m alone?”
Our theory classes cover exactly this: changing a tyre, checking oil and water, switching petrol to CNG, and staying safe at the roadside.

How Long Does It Take a Woman to Learn Driving?
It depends on where you’re starting from, not on being a woman. Here’s a realistic guide:
| Starting point | Recommended course | What you’ll reach |
|---|---|---|
| Never driven before | 22-day course | Confident in city traffic, ready for the road test |
| Some practice, but nervous | 12-day course | Calm in traffic, parking, highway basics |
| Driven before, need a refresher | 12-day course | Confidence back, test-ready skills |
Prefer automatic? The same course lengths apply to our automatic car course, at the same fee. Not sure which to pick? Book one class and your instructor will recommend the right course.
Manual or Automatic – Which Is Better for Women?
Neither is ‘better’. It depends on your car at home and where you’ll drive.
Automatic (Toyota Passo)
- No clutch
- Easier in stop-go traffic
- Great for nervous beginners
- Ideal for city driving
Manual (Alto / Cultus)
- Drive any car
- More control on hills
- Most family cars in Pakistan are manual
Many ladies start in automatic and switch to manual later, at the same fee. You can also learn in your own car if you prefer.
Not sure which car suits you? Ask a female instructor.
What You’ll Learn in Our Ladies Driving Classes

Islamabad Branch · Markaz I-8
Ladies Driving Lessons in Islamabad (Markaz I-8)
Islamabad is one of the best cities in Pakistan for women to learn driving: wide roads, clear lanes and signals, and traffic police who enforce the rules. It also has fast roads like the Islamabad Expressway and Kashmir Highway, and busy markaz areas where parking takes skill. Our female instructors at Markaz I-8 train you for all of it, step by step.
From sector roads to the Expressway
Most students start on quieter sector roads close to home, then move on to markaz traffic, roundabouts and signals, and finally the Expressway and motorway. See our Islamabad training routes. Every class covers at least 4 km, and you can choose 30 minutes or 1 hour.
Your ITP license
When you’re ready for your license, we guide you through the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) process: learner permit, sign test and road test. Read our full Islamabad driving license guide, or see everything on our Islamabad driving school page.

Hill starts, the KKH and mountain bends
You’ll start near home, then practise city traffic, hill starts on slopes and lane discipline on the KKH. When you feel ready, we take you towards Nathia Gali for real mountain bends. Read more about our hill driving training in Abbottabad.

City chowks, the KKH and the Hazara Motorway
We begin on calm roads near your home, then move on to city chowks, the KKH and the Hazara Motorway. Planning family trips to Kaghan or Naran? Learn mountain road driving with us first, or practise motorway driving on the Hazara Motorway.

10 Road Safety Tips for Women Drivers in Pakistan
These are the habits our instructors teach every lady student, whether she drives in Islamabad sectors, Abbottabad hills or on the road to Kaghan.
1
Keep doors locked and windows up in slow traffic.
2
Save family numbers and a roadside helper on speed dial.
3
Keep fuel above a quarter tank, especially on the KKH and mountain roads.
4
Check tyre pressure, oil and water every week – we teach you how.
5
Carry a spare tyre, jack and wheel spanner, and know how to use them.
6
Plan long routes in daylight while you’re new.
7
Don’t react to honking or tailgating; let impatient drivers pass.
8
On the motorway, keep an active M-Tag and stay in the correct lane.
9
If you break down, move to the shoulder, switch on hazard lights and stay in the car if you feel unsafe.
10
In fog or rain, slow down, use low beams and increase your following distance.
We cover all of this in our theory classes. See course fees.
Prefer a scooty for short trips? Many women learn both.

Yes. A family member is welcome to sit in the back seat during any lesson. Many mothers, husbands and brothers join the first class or two, and most students then continue on their own once they feel comfortable.
Can I learn in an automatic car?
Yes. We teach automatic driving in a Toyota Passo at the same fee as manual. Automatic is a great choice for nervous beginners and city driving. See our automatic car course.
Should women learn manual or automatic?
It depends on the car you’ll drive. Automatic is easier in traffic, while manual lets you drive any car and gives more control on hills. Both cost the same, and many ladies start in automatic and switch to manual later.
I have never driven before. Which course should I take?
The 22-day course is best for complete beginners and nervous drivers. It gives you enough time to move from quiet roads to city traffic and highway driving, and to prepare fully for your road test.
How long is each class?
You can choose 30 minutes or 1 hour. Whatever you choose, every class covers at least 4 km of real driving, so you make steady progress instead of just going round in circles.
What are your timings?
All three branches are open 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. You can choose morning, afternoon or evening classes around your home, college or work. Sunday is Long Class day, with a full-day drive of 40+ km.
What is the minimum age to learn driving?
You need to be 18 to get a car driving license in Pakistan, so our car courses are for ladies aged 18 and above. Younger girls can prepare with our theory classes, and many families enrol daughters right after their 18th birthday.
Do I need a learner permit before starting?
No. You can start lessons without one. We help you apply for your learner permit in your first week, so your practice period runs alongside your course and you’re ready for the test sooner.
Will you help me get my driving license?
Yes, end to end. We guide you with ITP in Islamabad and KP Police in Abbottabad and Mansehra, from learner permit and sign test to road test, until your license is issued. See our license guide.
Can I learn in my own car?
Yes. If you’d rather learn in the car you’ll drive every day, your instructor can teach you in your own car. Just tell us when booking. The course fee stays the same.
Do you teach how to change a tyre?
Yes. Our theory classes cover changing a tyre, checking oil and water, switching petrol to CNG, basic troubleshooting and what to do if your car breaks down, so you can handle problems on your own.
Do you teach motorway driving to women?
Yes. We teach merging, lane discipline, speed limits, and M-Tag and motorway rules. Sunday Long Classes include motorway drives, such as the Hazara Motorway from Abbottabad and Mansehra.
Can I learn to drive on hills?
Yes. Our Abbottabad and Mansehra branches specialise in hill starts, bends and downhill control. See our hill driving training and mountain road training.
Is it safe for women to learn driving in Pakistan?
Yes, with the right school. At Makkah Driving School you’re taught by a certified female instructor, picked up from home and trained step by step from quiet roads to busy traffic. A family member can sit in, and we’ve been trusted by families since 2016.
Is there a shorter ladies course?
Ladies courses start at 12 days (Rs 12,000). If you’ve driven before, the 12-day course is enough to refresh your skills; complete beginners usually choose the 22-day course to feel truly confident in traffic and ready for the road test.
