Our story

Our Story: Female Driving Training in Abbottabad Since 2016

Makkah Driving School was founded by Mam Bano with a simple observation: women in Pakistan’s larger cities were increasingly learning to drive, but women in Abbottabad did not have the same access to professional driving education.

Women from Abbottabad began approaching Makkah with the same request.

We want to learn driving, but we want to learn from a female instructor.

That demand became the foundation of Makkah’s work with women in Abbottabad.

Today, the Abbottabad branch trains women every month, and Makkah has become one of the most established names associated with female driver training in the area. Every one of them learns at our driving school in Abbottabad, on the same roads and to the same standard.

If you see a woman driving in Abbottabad

If You See a Woman Driving in Abbottabad…

~90%

Our estimate, based on student and family feedback

Makkah has been part of the local driving community for years, and our student network has grown alongside the number of women driving independently in Abbottabad.

Based on the feedback and reports we continually receive from students and families, we estimate that if you see a woman driving in Abbottabad, there is around a 90% chance that her driving journey is connected to Makkah Driving School.

For us, that figure represents something bigger than a marketing statistic. It reflects years of teaching women, developing female instructors, and building a local network around women’s driving education.

Female instructors

Women Learning to Drive – Wherever You're Starting From

These students come with very different starting points. Our job is to understand where each student is starting and provide the training she actually needs.

01

Never sat behind the wheel

Some have never sat behind the wheel. We start from the seat and mirrors, in quiet streets, at your pace.

02

Practised with family, not confident

Some have practised with family members but lack confidence and proper road technique. We fix habits and build traffic confidence.

03

Know the basics, want polish

Others want professional training, automatic or manual skills, or preparation for their driving test.

Our instructors

We Develop Our Own Female Driving Instructors in Abbottabad

One of the most important parts of Makkah’s work is something many people do not see.

We do not simply hire experienced instructors. We develop them.

When we identify a woman with the potential to become a professional driving instructor, Makkah can take her from the beginning and train her through an intensive instructor-development process.

Three Hours a Day, Three Months

A fresh female trainee can spend at least three hours every day for approximately three months under the guidance of one of our most experienced female instructors. This is not a short training course. It is a three-month period of practical work, repetition, road experience, correction, and professional development.

1

Month 1

Her own driving

Vehicle control, city traffic and practical road driving until her own driving is solid.

2

Month 2

Roads & correction

Mountain and defensive driving, different road conditions and difficult situations, with constant correction.

3

Month 3

Learning to teach

Teaching techniques, student management and preparing another person to drive independently.

What Does a Makkah Instructor Learn?

Our instructor training goes beyond simply knowing how to drive a car. Trainees are exposed to different driving situations and environments, including:

  • City driving
  • Mountain driving
  • Defensive driving
  • Traffic awareness
  • Vehicle control
  • Practical road driving
  • Different road conditions
  • Handling difficult driving situations
  • Teaching techniques
  • Student management
  • Preparing another person to drive independently

The goal is not simply to produce someone who can drive. The goal is to produce someone who can teach.

After completing the training process, the instructor is prepared to obtain her driving license and begin teaching students professionally.

Women who teach women

Training Women to Teach Women

Our approach is deliberately long-term.

A woman who joins Makkah as a trainee instructor does not simply spend a few days learning the basics and receive a title. She works alongside experienced instructors, practises repeatedly, learns how to deal with different road conditions, develops her own driving ability, and gradually learns how to identify and correct mistakes in another driver.

Only after this process do we consider her ready to teach students. This is one reason Makkah has been able to build a network of female instructors rather than depending entirely on instructors hired from outside.

More Than 10 Female Instructors From Our Abbottabad Network

Through our Abbottabad, Islamabad and Mansehra branches, more than 10 instructors from the Abbottabad network have been developed through Makkah’s training system, alongside other women who have been trained and employed by Makkah. Some of the instructors associated with our training network include:

M. Nusrat

Trained through Makkah's instructor programme

M. Fozia

Trained through Makkah's instructor programme

M. Ruksana

Trained through Makkah's instructor programme

M. Haleema

Trained through Makkah's instructor programme

For Makkah, developing instructors is important because the demand for female driving education cannot be met unless more qualified women are trained to teach other women. That is how a driving school creates a lasting impact.

Supporting Our Instructors Beyond Training

Workshops & guidance

Makkah continues to provide workshops and professional guidance to instructors within our network.

Free training for her family

Their close family members can receive driving training free of charge. We believe an instructor should be able to help her own family become independent drivers as well.

Makkah Driving School was founded by Mam Bano. Women in Abbottabad kept asking to learn driving from a female instructor, and since 2016 our Abbottabad branch has built its ladies driving programme around that request. Today we also teach women through our Islamabad and Mansehra branches.

More than 100 women learn through our Abbottabad branch every month. Some have never sat behind the wheel, some practised with family but lack confidence, and others want automatic or manual skills or test preparation. Your instructor starts from where you are and builds the training around what you need.

We develop our instructors ourselves. A trainee spends at least three hours a day for about three months with one of our most experienced female instructors, covering city, mountain and defensive driving, vehicle control and teaching technique. Only then does she get her licence and begin teaching. More than 10 instructors have come through this system.

Ladies courses start at Rs 12,000: Rs 12,000 for 12 days or Rs 22,000 for 22 days, manual or automatic. The Scooty Driving Course is a flat Rs 20,000 for 10 days. Pick and drop from home is a small extra charge based on your area. See the full fee breakdown on the courses page.

You can usually start lessons first and apply for your learner permit alongside them. The permit is the first step towards a full KP driving licence, so we recommend applying early. Our learner permit guides for KP cover each step.

The minimum age for a car driving licence in Pakistan is 18. A girl under 18 cannot get a licence or a learner permit, so she should not drive on public roads yet. Families often book classes to start near her 18th birthday.

Since 2016

Since 2016, One Student at a Time

Makkah’s story in Abbottabad began with women asking for something that was difficult to find: professional driving education from female instructors.

It has grown into a branch training more than 100 women every month and a wider network that has helped develop female driving instructors across Abbottabad, Islamabad and Mansehra.

For us, the most meaningful measure of that journey is not how many people know the name Makkah. It is how many women can now get behind the wheel because someone at Makkah taught them how.
