Wondering which type of questions are asked in the learning license test? Here is the short answer. Most questions are traffic sign MCQs: you see a picture of a sign and choose its meaning. Some tests also add simple traffic rule questions, like what a red light means or who has the right of way.
This guide gives you the most common learning license test and driving license test questions and answers in Pakistan in very easy words. It covers the Punjab, Karachi and Sindh tests, bike questions, Urdu questions, and how to pass on your first try.
Want someone to teach you the signs and rules in person? Our driving courses include theory classes on traffic signals and road signs, plus real-road practice from day one.
Quick facts
- A learner’s permit is a practice license. You must drive with a licensed person beside you.
- It is usually valid for six months.
- You can usually book the full driving test 42 days after the permit is issued.
- Pass marks and question counts change by city, so confirm at your local office.
1. Which Type of Questions Are Asked in the Learning License Test?
What questions are on the learner’s test?
There are three kinds:
- Traffic sign questions. This is the biggest part. Example: “What does this round red sign mean?”
- Traffic rule questions. Example: “What should you do at a red light?”
- Safe driving questions. Example: “When should you not use the horn?”
Are the questions hard?
No. They are multiple choice (MCQs) with 3 or 4 options. You only need to pick the right one.
How many questions come in the test?
It depends on the authority, and sources do not fully agree:
- Punjab e-sign test: about 10 computer questions. Many sources say 5 correct answers are needed to pass.
- Motorway Police (NHMP) self-test: 20 questions in two parts, signs and traffic rules. The listed passing mark is 9 in each part.
- Other guide sites: 10 to 20 questions, with 60% to 80% to pass.
Always confirm the current numbers at your licensing office.
Are there questions about motorways?
Yes. Motorway signs are often studied separately because they are easy to forget. If you plan to drive on motorways, read our Islamabad M-Tag (E-Tag) guide so you know the rules before you go.
Do I need to pass a test for the learner permit itself?
Sources disagree. In many offices the permit is issued quickly with your CNIC and fee. The sign and written test is definitely required before your permanent license. Ask the counter at your center.
